And Finally …

It’s fall. And the weather has cooled down. This is my favourite time of the year without a doubt.

As soon as the weather cools down I feel like I can breathe. The mornings are in the 40s and the days in the high 60s to low 70s. I look forward to my morning walks again.

This morning it was 46 F when I went for my walk, and it was really windy. My face actually went numb and I had to wear the hood on my sweatshirt. I pretty much jogged instead of walked, eager to get out of the cold wind, but it was way better than the unrelenting heat.

It feels like it has gone from 150 F to 46 overnight, but I’m certainly not complaining. This is what I’ve been waiting for, and on those seemingly endless hot days, I often think it will never get here. But just like every season, one ends and the next begins.

We have a small window of about three weeks to enjoy the fall weather before it gets too cold. Oklahoma has incredibly icy winds in winter and being outdoors for too long is miserable. So Jim and I only have a short period to fit in all of the things it has been too hot to do — the zoo, all the different gardens, Medicine Park, Kansas, and the new park in Tulsa. The outdoor things. We’ll probably manage about two of them before it gets cold.

I am certainly not envious of my Australian friends as they start preparing for the coming summer. I’m sure they’re looking forward to the long, warm days, but not me. Give me a thick parka, beanie, boots, fleecy pants and winter, and I’m happy.
